How to install .rwp files?
To load any content that is packed as an .rwp archive file please do the following:
- Locate and run utilities.exe. You can find this program in your Railworks directory (typically ..Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\)
- Choose ‘Package Manager‘ from the top menu tabs
- Click ‘Refresh‘ to see what’s already installed and after loading has completed click ‘Install‘.
- Locate your .rwp file and click ‘Open‘.
Your software will now be unpacked into the Railworks environment.
5 important things you need to know when installing a TwX product
We have created a document that answers some frequently asked questions about the installation process.
Please read this document if you have any issues during installation or want to delete TwX software.

TechTips
ZUB will not activate when I press the green button..
You have to activate PMS brakes (RED PMS button) before initiating the ZUB test sequence.
I don’t want the V-soll / Tempomat to be active (switch it off)..
If you set the V-soll over 230 km/h you effectively have manual control. Use the handle or ‘Y’ key to increase the value (or ‘C’ key to decrease).
ZUB shows wrong information..
The ZUB system is an emulation that is strongly dependent on route information like track speed and signalling. There are no ZUB magnets on any of the current Swiss routes (dd. Jan 2017). This means that the ZUB display is not always working correctly.
I found a bug! Where can I report it?
Please use the help desk system that is accessible by clicking the green SUPPORT tab on the bottom of this TrainworX website. A ticket will be created and you will receive an answer within 24hrs.
The installer does not work. It does not recognize my Trainsimulator folder..
If you get the message: “RailWorks does not seem to be installed. Please install Railworks first and try again or run the Railworks registry tool…”, chances are that you have an a-typical TS installation where Windows did not correctly update your registry or, for instance, you moved your Railworks folder after initial installation.
To fix this, run a registry fixer (RegDetectandFix). Try to run the installer again after this.
Account Deletion and Email preferences
Because of the GDPR we had to do all kinds of things to comply with data regulations in EU. One of the things we had to add to our webshop is the possibility for users to completely delete their account.
If you wish to use this option please note the following:
- All your personal data will be removed from our systems.
- You will therefore lose access to your account data including purchases, invoices and downloads. Make sure you have copies of all your software BEFORE wiping your account.
- There is no way to reset your account after deletion. You will have to re-purchase items after creating a new account.
If you wish to change your Email settings you can use the Email preferences option in your account.
Reverser is stuck in ‘forward’ position at startup..
If you experience problems with the controls check if your Driving Controls are set to: ‘Expert Mode’.
All TwX add-ons need Expert Mode Controls to properly function.
The regulator acts weird..
On the Re 420 (and 620) the power is controlled by a ‘Stufenschalter’ (Stepswitch). This means that when you move the regulator forward, the Stufenschalter will switch up to higher power up to a certain level. So holding the switch in position + or ++ will ramp the power up to maximum. Try moving the switch back to ‘0’ (Zero) after 4 or 5 steps (you can easily hear them) or look at the amps go to 400 or so. The engine will still accelerate because the power is set at that step.
‘M’ switches one-by-one and you have more fine control using that one. + and ++ must only be used when you really need a lot of power to accelerate a heavy train.
Sometimes the auto-lights don’t work correctly..
Although I have tried to catch all situations there can be corner-cases where the train does not correctly set the lights for you. You can override the auto setting by pushing the green ‘manual lights on’ switch.
After doing this ‘Dienstbeleuchtung’ (Service lights) will be active. You can switch to ‘Lokzug’ (Train lights) and manually switch front lights on/off. Pressing the red ‘Manual lights off’ button sets the auto lights again.
NOTE: The auto system is also depending on which cab you are in so in some cases you need to try going in-and-out of the cabs to fix the auto setting of the lights.
ZUB won’t activate properly..
Make sure the following has been done before pushing the green ZUB button (ZUB test/activation):
- Ignition key
- Panto
- Main switch
- PMS brakes on
After this you can activate ZUB. Don’t forget to disengage PMS brakes and re-engage Main switch after test has completed!
I cannot move faster than 1km/h..
You have to set the V-soll (Tempomat/Cruise-control) higher than 10 km/h to be able to get out of the ‘coupling-speed’. Setting the V-soll higher than 220 km/h will effectively switch off V-soll control.
My self-made IC 2000 consist acts strange…
The IC 2000 versions of the Re 460 are a bit different to the original Re 460’s. They have to communicate and behave as part of the IC 2000 consist. It is best to use the included consists but if you want to make your own then there are 2 important things to do:
- Only use IC 2000 ready Re 460’s (with ..IC 2000 at the end) in combination with the IC 2000 carriages
- Always point the front cab (cab 1) towards the IC 2000 wagons.
If you own both the IC 2000 and Re 460 pack you can use all (IC 2000) versions of the Re 460 to push/pull the IC 2000 wagons/Bt.
How do I uninstall the Gotthard Panoramic Route?
NOTE! The uninstaller that came with version 1.01 had reportedly deleted unintended files. Please DO NOT USE the uninstaller! Version 1.02 has no uninstaller to prevent problems.
When you want to uninstall the GPR, please do so manually by deleting the following folders:
..\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\CreativeworX\CwX_Objects_CH
..\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\FredBull
Some freeware assets will remain on your system after this. If you want to also remove these please use trainworx utilities.
My train doesn’t move!
If you have troubles to get moving please refer to the manual before raising a helpdesk ticket.
TwX trains have a high reality factor. Therefore it might be needed to perform some operations (sometimes in a specific order) to get things ready for operation. These operations are mentioned in the manual and ‘how to’ videos.
Links to the manuals and videos can be found on the product pages.
Run TS and install TwX addons on a Linux PC
If you ‘d like to run TS with our trains on a Linux Steam setup please try the following*:
- Add the Railworks Windows Registry keys:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Wow6432Node > RailSimulator.com > RailWorks :
“(Default)” | “REG_SZ” | blank / value not set
“exe_path” | “REG_SZ” | full Windows style addres to the executable – eg: “C:\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\RailWorks.exe”
“install_path” | “REG_SZ” | full Windows style addres to the folder containing the executable – eg “C:\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks”
Using WINEPREFIX of the Proton running Train Sim (24010), run the TwX installer like on Windows…
WINEPREFIX *should* be located at: steamapps/compatdata/42010/pfx
- No guarantees that this solution will work in your case but one of our customers was successfully installed TS and our addons this way.
How do I uninstall TwX add-ons?
NOTE! We have found serious issues with some versions of uninstaller programs. They will delete ALL ASSETS and not only the CwX or TwX folders. Please DO NOT use the uninstall programs of the following add-ons:
- Re 620
- Re 420
- GPR
To uninstall any TwX add-on WITHOUT using the included uninstallers please do the following:
- Navigate to your Railworks Assets folder (Typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets)
- For the RABe 511 navigate to /TrainworX and delete the folder: TwX_Rabe511. For all other add-ons navigate to /CreativeworX.
- Remove the folder of the add-on you wish to uninstall:
Re 420 pack and Re 420 172 : CwX_RE420
Re 421 pack : CwX_RE421
Re 620 pack : CwX_RE620
Re 460 pack AND IC2000 : CwX_RE460
All freight wagons : CwX_SBBFreight
IMPORTANT! Please ALWAYS make a backup of your Railworks environment BEFORE uninstalling or deleting anything. Especially the /Assets and /Content folders should be backed up.
Swapping rolling stock in existing scenarios
My virus shield says that the installer contains a threat..
TrainworX installers are compressed (packed) during installation to bring the file size down. Several antivirus programs, including Windows Defender (as of January 2019) incorrectly flag these installation files as a virus (normally marking them as TrojanWin32/CryptInject.E). This is because the antivirus cannot ‘unpack’ the installation files, so it just assumes they are a threat.
It is important to understand that there are no executable files in a Train Simulator add-on. All it contains is the data for the train or wagon (textures, geometry and the simulation files), so there is nothing in the installation that could be considered malicious. It is purely the antivirus software’s inability to unpack the file that causes these messages.
All TrainworX installers are clean. All add-ons are checked by VirusTotal against 60 or more different antivirus engines.
At this time there is no permanent solution to the issue. All installers have been sent to the different antivirus companies, including Microsoft, in an attempt to get them on to the ‘white list’ but TrainworX has no control over the time it will take for this to happen (if it ever happens).
For the time being, the only workaround is to temporarily disable your antivirus software during installation (and possibly also during download) if you see the Trojan false positive message.
How does the ZUB system work?
If you get stuck on using ZUB, please read this article:
This will explain a bit more about how the system works on TwX trains. If you don’t switch on ZUB your train will normally default to the standard AWS.
